Meet the Teacher

What is your name?

David Van Deusen

Graduate of Oral Roberts University

FACE Principle Approach master teacher certification

What do you teach?

I teach PE and Elementary Math.

How many years have you taught at True Foundation?

I have taught here since 2020.

What do you appreciate most about the Principle Approach?

I appreciate that the Principle Approach enhances Christian education by addressing and filling in many of the gaps I experienced while I was growing up in Christian education.

What do you see in your students that is most encouraging?

What is most encouraging that I see in these scholars is their persistent growth in areas that were once weaknesses.

Why do you love teaching at True Foundation?

Teaching at True Foundation has been a blessing because before my oldest son was school age, I was searching for a deeper biblical worldview than I was finding at other private schools. The Principle Approach at True Foundation contains the key concepts that I desire for my kids to learn and it is a blessing to be teaching those key concepts to many of his peers as well!

How do you teach Biblical worldview in your classroom?

I teach biblical worldview by establishing in the mind of each scholar how each subject stems from the biblical foundations that exist in each subject. I also show the unity of each subject to the others. For example, History’s timeline begins with Genesis 1:1 and there are scientific references made in each verse of the first chapter of Genesis. I show them how when God created the land it is the beginning of Geography. Then they also see how the land’s geography was changed in the flood in the days of Noah. There are also many opportunities to show the biblical worldview in Math.

What do you think most students appreciate about your class?

I think they appreciate a light homework load and when they get to do fun activities in class that illustrate the historical theme. I also think that they appreciate some of my explanations in math class.

What is unique about you, your talents, or interests that you bring to the class room?

I learned when I was teaching in another school, which has been confirmed at True Foundation, that I have a natural tendency to give each scholar a chance at one on one help from me in every class. This proves especially helpful in math class but also enhances scholarly performance in History, Bible, and Geography.

What have you seen in your students over the years that has touched your heart the most?

Though this is my first year teaching, I have seen a wealth of potential in each scholar and it blesses me to see how their potential will be realized as they go on to the next level.
